Welcome to Chartwells Catering at Oakland University! Our mission is to provide you with exceptional quality, exceptional service and a creative cutting-edge culinary experience. Our professional staff is available to assist in planning your special event Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5:00pm. Please contact our catering coordinator at 248-370-3400 for customized service and menus.

Policies & Procedures

To ensure optimal selection and the best possible service we kindly ask that events be booked at least seven business days in advance. We understand events arise unexpectedly and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

The Ordering Process

To ensure optimal selection and the best possible service we kindly ask that events be booked at least 7 business days in advance. We understand events arise unexpectedly and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Late orders will be accommodated to the best of our abilities on a case by case basis including rush charges as follows: 96-72 business hours prior 25% of the food & beverage bill, less than 48 Business Hours prior 50% of the food & beverage bill and less than 24 hours may be subject to 75% late charge. Delivery of all orders outside the Oakland Center incur a $20.00 delivery charge. We will do our best to accommodate requests less than 48 business hours, however substitutions may be necessary.

Cancellation

We kindly request that cancellations be made 5 business days prior to the event date. Cancellations made less than three business days prior to the event date will be billed 50% of the total bill. Catered events cancelled less than two business days prior to the event date will be billed for 75% of the total bill. Day of cancellations will be billed at 100%. Extreme and inclement weather cancellations are excluded. This occurs only when the University is closed due to inclement weather.

Serviceware and China

All disposable serviceware will be furnished with all items purchased. Some exceptions apply to orders being picked up. We provide high quality disposable plastic ware. China included only with lunch and dinner buffets from the Carved and Crafted Menu (receptions not included) with minimum of 125 guests.    All other events requesting china such as a reception will incur a charge of $2.39 per person.  China is included at no cost for all plated meals. All events outside of the Oakland Center will incur a $2.39 per person charge for all events plus labor charges.

Food Safety

Food safety and sanitation is a top priority for us. Any unused food remains property of  Chartwells Catering and cannot be removed from an event in accordance with state health regulations.

Events outside of the Oakland Center

Each event outside of the Oakland Center with a food and beverage total of $350 or less will be pickup only. Orders can be picked up at the Catering Station next to suite 146 in the Oakland Center. 

Student Menu

To order from the student menu, you must be a student organization and ordering using an SAFB Fund number or Flex number. Student Org events are available as pickup only, and Chartwells Catering is not responsible for the cleanup and food safety after pickup. Your order will be available for pick-up at the Catering Station next to suite 146 in the Oakland Center. Full service will be provided after a food and beverage minimum of $750 is met.

Billing & Payment

A form of payment (fund number/credit card) is required five business days prior to the event date.

Meeting Room and Equipment 

Please reserve all non-food related equipment by contacting Oakland University Administration at 248-370-3245. This includes room reservation, set and room configuration, audio visual and other general information.

Event Time

Events are billed in 4 hour increments. Events exceeding the 2 hour service time will be subject to additional service fees This is to include an hour for set up, two hours of event run time, and one hour for break down. Catered events on weekends are subject to a minimum order of $300 per event in food and beverage. Weekends are defined by any bookings all day Saturdays and all day Sunday.
